The prices apply for journeys with Midttrafik buses, Letbanen and Midtjyske Jernbaner trains. If you only or partially travel with DSB or Arriva trains, DSB’s prices and tickets apply.

However, the prices and validity of transit tickets are the same as DSB and Arriva transit tickets.

The Midttrafik area is divided into zones, and the cost of a trip is calculated according to how many zones you travel through when taking the shortest possible route to your destination. You must always pay for at least two zones.

The price of a journey is usually higher if you travel between different regions compared to travelling within the Midttrafik area.

Special rules and prices have been determined for Flexbus (dial-a-ride bus).

In Midttrafik, the price for a single trip ticket and transit ticket is calculated according to how many zones the journey covers – i.e. the zone distance. The zone distance is calculated according to the ring zone principle.

As a rule, you will need to pay for the number of zones there are from the zone in which you start to the zone in which your journey ends. If you travel through a zone en route which lies further away than the end zone, then you will have to pay for this zone distance instead. This often happens when you have to transfer from one bus to another, where you might find yourself driving in a different direction to that of your final destination.

If you travel from one region to another, i.e. you travel across regional boundaries, the price is calculated differently: The price for the number of zones from the journey starting point to the regional boundary is added to the price for the number of zones from the regional boundary to the final destination. If there are parallel bus routes between the same start and end zones, the price is always the same regardless of which route you choose. The price is calculated according to the shortest distance.

Midttrafik is one large tariff area.

However, there are three tariff areas in relation to the validity area for the Youth card:

• Midttrafik Øst (east) and Syd (south) (MTØ):
  Covers the municipalities of Randers, Norddjurs, Syddjurs, Favrskov, Silkeborg, Skanderborg, Aarhus, Odder, Horsens and Hedensted.
• Midttrafik Vest (west) (MTV):
  Covers the municipalities of Lemvig, Struer, Holstebro, Ringkøbing-Skjern, Herning and Ikast-Brande.
  
• Midttrafik Midt (central) (MTM):
  Covers the municipalities of Viborg and Skive.
