Bus/train combined journey

Validity of bus tickets on DSB and GoCollective trains and of train tickets on buses, Letbanen and Midtjyske Jernbaner

Using Midttrafik tickets on trains

You cannot travel with DSB or GoCollective trains using single tickets, multi-trip tickets or other tickets purchased from Midttrafik, whether it's an app ticket, print-at-home ticket, ticket bought from the driver, or from Midttrafik's ticket machines, or pensioner cards. However, it will be possible to travel by train with a commuter card purchased from Midttrafik (Rejsebillet app, Basiskort). The Rejsekort app can also be used on both buses and trains.

Updated 1 June 2026

Using rail tickets on buses, Letbanen and Midtjyske Jernbaner trains

You can travel by bus, Letbanen and Midtjyske Jernbaner trains on your rail ticket if it is in connection with an ongoing trip between a start and end zone.

However, the above does not apply to tickets issued by DSB’s foreign partners or DSB Orange tickets as well as some types of special tickets issued by DSB or Arriva. Please check the terms and conditions for your ticket to find out whether it is valid on buses.

Travelling between regions

If you have a DSB/Arriva ticket, you can also travel by bus and Letbanen if there is a direct route between the rail ticket’s start and end zones. You can also travel on direct routes between the ticket’s start or end zone and a DSB/Arriva station or a DSB/Arriva transfer area situated between a start and end zone. In other words, the ticket’s start or end zone must be the same as that for the terminus for the bus or Letbanen. The second end point must be a station on the railway line for which you have a ticket.

You must not get off the bus or Letbanen in any of the zones in between.

For example, you have a train ticket from Vejle to Aarhus. Here, you can take bus route 202 from Vejle to Aarhus, or route 107 from Horsens to Skanderborg, or route 200 from Skanderborg to Aarhus. However, you cannot take bus route 202 from Horsens to Solbjerg, as Solbjerg is not served by train.

You cannot use a bicycle ticket issued by DSB/Arriva on the bus or Letbanen, so you will have to purchase a new ticket for your bike.

A bicycle ticket issued by DSB/Arriva is valid on Lemvigbanen.

Please note that from 18 March 2018, the transfer area for train travel between Midttrafik’s area and the rest of Jutland and Funen will be reduced to one zone (e.g. zone 301 in Aarhus).

Online tickets/self-print tickets

If you want to use a self-print ticket (a ticket you have printed yourself from the DSB website) on Midttrafik’s buses, Letbanen and Midtjyske Jernbaner trains in continuation of your train journey, a number of conditions must be met.

Read more about self-print tickets.

Updated 18 March 2018

Transfer with a rail ticket

The cooperation between bus, Letbanen and rail means that you can transfer to a bus and Letbanen in the transfer zone(s) on a train ticket.

  • If the ticket covers one to three zones, it is only valid for one ongoing and continuous journey (including any bus change) from the start zone to the end zone.
  • If the ticket is for four zones or more, bus connection applies throughout the day of validity in the zones shown on the ticket.

The transfer zones can be seen on the ticket or card. However, the above does not apply to tickets issued by DSB’s foreign partners or DSB Orange tickets as well as some mobile tickets. The transfer zone(s) must be shown on the ticket.

Tog+ tickets and cards

DSB and Arriva can issue special Tog+ tickets and cards.

Tog+ tickets and cards are issued on selected lines and include a connecting journey by bus or Letbanen on stretches where trains do not run.

All Tog+ tickets and cards are required for the trip which is shown on the ticket or card.
